{"id":362,"date":"2008-09-17T16:20:19","date_gmt":"2008-09-17T20:20:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.samplereality.com\/gmu\/fall2008\/343\/?p=362"},"modified":"2008-09-17T16:20:19","modified_gmt":"2008-09-17T20:20:19","slug":"jabber-the-jabberwocky-engine","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.samplereality.com\/gmu\/fall2008\/343\/2008\/09\/17\/jabber-the-jabberwocky-engine\/","title":{"rendered":"Jabber the Jabberwocky Engine"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"x-small;\">Undoubtedly Lewis Carroll used this engine while writing his stories about Alice.\u00a0 Those stories and poems definitely have a special place in my heart, and you have to admit that the language he uses is definitely innovative.\u00a0 Jabber seriously amused me for a while.\u00a0 &#8220;Jabber realises          a linguistic chemistry with letters as atoms and words as molecules&#8221; is how the introduction page reads.\u00a0 What a great idea!\u00a0 I&#8217;m not much of a science person, but I can appreciate the comparison between language and science.\u00a0 Think of how instantly you are able to equate language, symbols, to concrete objects or ideas or feelings.\u00a0 That has to be some form of science, rapid computing.\u00a0 Jabber does nothing to really provoke anything completely profound or earth-shattering but it is a fun way to make up new words in combinations I would never begin to imagine.\u00a0 I found it to be representational of language!\u00a0 It could be almost satirical of how we place such a symbolic value to objects and ideas with the meaning of words.\u00a0 Words are only valuble to us because of their relation with what they represent.\u00a0 What if a desk was called a koiestre?\u00a0 Or a pen an estrami?\u00a0 Desk and pen would be the weird words and the other two would evoke an image of school or an office or wherever.\u00a0 Some combinations of letters and vowels are so significant while others, as in the Jabber engine, are combinations that are nonsense unless we assign them meaning.
