a wunderkammer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Although I think each new media text we have studied so far\u00a0has something meaningful to offer, my favorite piece of them all would have to be <em>my body &#8211; a wunderkammer<\/em>.\u00a0\u00a0I became\u00a0interested in the genre of creative\u00a0non-fiction in high school, and\u00a0I&#8217;ve always wondered about new ways to present my\u00a0creative non-fiction writing.\u00a0 I enjoy reflecting on my past experiences, especially those\u00a0during my childhood.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve found that\u00a0creative non-fiction writing can illuminate a lot of things about yourself that you tend to overlook.\u00a0 This kind of writing also allows\u00a0you to step\u00a0out and\u00a0&#8220;make the familiar strange,&#8221; as they say.\u00a0\u00a0Creative non-fiction writing\u00a0can really give you insight on how you position yourself in the world,\u00a0how you develop relationships with others,\u00a0or how you view a particular issue.\u00a0 There&#8217;s also a sense of relief when you get it down on paper or, in Shelley Jackson&#8217;s case, complete the html code.<\/p>\n<p>I was\u00a0very\u00a0impressed with Jackson&#8217;s approach\u00a0in <em>my body<\/em>, and I&#8217;m considering\u00a0the work as an example for my own media project.\u00a0 Instead of simply choosing to write a memoir, Jackson\u00a0chose to create a hypertext\u00a0in which she recounts\u00a0her memories.\u00a0 The fact that each body part is linked and readers can pick and choose which body parts to explore gives readers the sense that they are interacting with the work.\u00a0 We actually feel as though we are taking a glimpse into Jackson&#8217;s life.\u00a0 Presenting\u00a0the memories in a digital work makes it more pleasurable for the reader.\u00a0\u00a0If we had to sit\u00a0down and read a book about Jackson&#8217;s life, we would probably find it\u00a0dull and boring.\u00a0 Some\u00a0parts of that book might be dry, and we&#8217;d have to sit through all of it, instead of just picking out the parts we enjoy, the parts that we can\u00a0relate to.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a totally different experience with <em>my body<\/em>.\u00a0 Jackson boldly presents\u00a0readers with a picture drawing\u00a0of her body, encouraging\u00a0them to click where they please.\u00a0 I, personally, gravitated towards the body parts that held some significance in my own life.\u00a0\u00a0(I clicked on the ear first, since\u00a0I have a funny story about the time I stuck a pearl in my ear.)\u00a0 In this way, readers can find ways to relate to Jackson&#8217;s work.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I also enjoyed Jackson&#8217;s candid tone.\u00a0\u00a0She seems comfortable talking about anything and everything,\u00a0and at times her story seems fantastical and fabricated.\u00a0 For me, the line between creative non-fiction and fiction\u00a0is blurred in the work.\u00a0\u00a0I still found it intruiguing, though.\u00a0 Also, I thought the\u00a0sound and illustrations were nice touches.\u00a0 The\u00a0drawings were\u00a0visually stimulating, and they served as a break from the\u00a0actual text.\u00a0 In addition to the text, the drawings provide a glimpse into Jackson&#8217;s life.\u00a0 They show readers how Jackson perceives herself and her body.\u00a0 She mentions drawing in a lot of her anecdotes, so she&#8217;s infusing more of herself into the work by including these drawings.\u00a0 I feel that <em>my body<\/em> is an up-close-and-personal piece &#8211; from the heavy breathing\u00a0that accompanies the title page\u00a0to the &#8220;wunderkammer&#8221; idea that seems to\u00a0encourage readers to explore\u00a0this body.\u00a0 At the same time, however, Jackson seems very inviting.\u00a0 She wants readers to be able to relate to her work.\u00a0 Presenting her memories in this way not only reaches a larger audience, but it also encourages readers to reflect on their own experiences.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Although I think each new media text we have studied so far\u00a0has something meaningful to offer, my favorite piece of them all would have to be my body &#8211;
