Our\u00a0discussion about Implementation <\/em>reminded me of graffiti art, which\u00a0also seems viral in nature, as it spreads like wild fire in various cities all around the world.\u00a0 I agree with Krisztian’s argument that Implementation<\/em> might be more about “how a counter-cultural movement begins and works” than psychological warfare, for instance.\u00a0 I think\u00a0one of the main goals behind the project is\u00a0to get people involved in the story-making process.\u00a0 The\u00a0sticker idea encourages\u00a0a collaborative effort and offers people the opportunity to add their own meanings to the work.\u00a0 According to Montfort and Rettberg, “We hope that this form of interaction will engender new and unanticipated meanings as Implementation<\/cite> is situated in specific public spaces that resonate with the texts in different ways.”\u00a0 In other words, the\u00a0ways in which people choose to situate\u00a0and photograph the stickers\u00a0add new meaning to the work.\u00a0\u00a0A passerby\u00a0who reads a sticker in Philadelphia, for instance, would\u00a0interpret\u00a0the\u00a0text\u00a0differently than someone reading the same sticker in Tokyo.<\/p>\n

At the same time, however, it’s\u00a0difficult to piece the different texts together and construct a\u00a0complete, full-blown narrative, just as it’s difficult to form a narrative from various graffiti tags across New York.\u00a0 I think it’s\u00a0almost impossible to\u00a0fully grasp all of the major themes of the work.\u00a0\u00a0However, as we discussed in class, individual stickers can be\u00a0effective and thought-provoking on their own.\u00a0 The story\u00a0begins to take shape\u00a0as more and more people take action, too.\u00a0 Although I don’t think that\u00a0Montfort and Rettberg wanted their audiences to uncover the full narrative, the Internet helps us put some of the pieces together.\u00a0 If it wasn’t for the Web, we probably wouldn’t know that this project even existed.\u00a0 With the image archive, we can see\u00a0stickers\u00a0popping up all over the world and compare stickers side-by-side.\u00a0 The same holds true for graffiti art.\u00a0\u00a0You can find\u00a0archives full of graffiti art online.\u00a0 Here’s an example: http:\/\/www.graffiti.org\/<\/a>.\u00a0 With the help of the Internet, we can at least form some kind of coherent narrative.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
