{"id":333,"date":"2008-11-01T21:25:34","date_gmt":"2008-11-02T01:25:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.samplereality.com\/gmu\/fall2008\/414\/?p=333"},"modified":"2008-11-01T21:25:34","modified_gmt":"2008-11-02T01:25:34","slug":"333","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.samplereality.com\/gmu\/fall2008\/414\/archives\/333","title":{"rendered":""},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The &#8220;post&#8221; distinction Appiah makes in his essay I think needs to be further drawn out in its explanation.\u00a0 The &#8220;post&#8221; connotation as almost synonymous for better is too vague and not necessarily true when applied to things termed &#8220;post-colonial.&#8221;\u00a0 Not that I&#8217;m for imperialism and the extortion and extraction that colonialism tends to burden nations with, but I think progress and the idea that post is the equalivant to better needs to be qualified to a greater degree.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Modernism saw the economisation of the world as the triumph of reason; postmodernism rejects that claim, allowing in the realm of theory the same multiplication of distinctions we see in the cultures it seeks to understand.
