{"id":437,"date":"2009-09-29T02:56:03","date_gmt":"2009-09-29T06:56:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.samplereality.com\/gmu\/fall2009\/459\/?p=437"},"modified":"2009-09-29T02:56:03","modified_gmt":"2009-09-29T06:56:03","slug":"lh-and-wn","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.samplereality.com\/gmu\/fall2009\/459\/archives\/437","title":{"rendered":"LH and WN"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Some differences I noticed between <em>Lucifer&#8217;s Hammer<\/em> and <em>White Noise<\/em> were firstly, that <em>White Noise<\/em> is told in the first person perspective.\u00a0 After being inside so many people&#8217;s heads and constantly being bombarded with changes in perspective\u00a0in <em>Lucifer&#8217;s Hammer<\/em>, I have to say, this first person perspective was refreshing.\u00a0 Another thing that I noticed was that names were a big thing in LH, but in <em>White Noise<\/em>, we aren&#8217;t even told the main character, Jack&#8217;s name until the beginning of Ch.2.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>As far as time period goes, <em>White Noise<\/em> is the more recent novel, written in 1985, so the ideas represented might be a bit more modern compared to LH.\u00a0 Some connections I saw were with the television.\u00a0 We discussed in class how Tim Hamner always relied on things he saw on television.\u00a0 Heinrich, Jack&#8217;s son, sort of reminds me of Tim in that way.\u00a0 He seems to have alot of scientific knowledge for someone his age.\u00a0 He is constantly referring to things on T.V or the radio.\u00a0 In one scene, Heinrich insists it will rain that night because it said so on the radio, but Jack tells him it is infact raining at that very moment, in front of their eyes.\u00a0 Heinrich refuses to listen to him.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Babbette and Jack&#8217;s relationship might be a contrast to Loretta and Harvey&#8217;s, because Babbette and Jack are more open in their communications with each other, and seem to be on more equal footing.\u00a0 There are also <em>alot<\/em> of kids in this novel, and we are told many details about them through the course of the story.\u00a0 In LH, there weren&#8217;t really that many kids, and the ones mentioned like Harvey&#8217;s son weren&#8217;t really given many pages for the reader to familiarize themselves with the characters.\u00a0 The kids in WN are also very mature for their age and the kids in LH, particularly Andy are seen as becoming more\u00a0mature after Hammerfall.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Some differences I noticed between Lucifer&#8217;s Hammer and White Noise were firstly, that White Noise is told in the first person perspective.\u00a0 After being inside so many people&#8217;s heads and constantly being bombarded with changes in perspective\u00a0in Lucifer&#8217;s Hammer, I have to say, this first person perspective was refreshing.\u00a0 Another thing that I noticed was&hellip; <a class=\"more-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.samplereality.com\/gmu\/fall2009\/459\/archives\/437\">Continue reading <span class=\"screen-reader-text\">LH and WN<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":8,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":[],"categories":[10],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.samplereality.com\/gmu\/fall2009\/459\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/437"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.samplereality.com\/gmu\/fall2009\/459\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.samplereality.com\/gmu\/fall2009\/459\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.samplereality.com\/gmu\/fall2009\/459\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/8"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.samplereality.com\/gmu\/fall2009\/459\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=437"}],"version-history":[{"count":1,"href":"https:\/\/www.samplereality.com\/gmu\/fall2009\/459\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/437\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":438,"href":"https:\/\/www.samplereality.com\/gmu\/fall2009\/459\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/437\/revisions\/438"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.samplereality.com\/gmu\/fall2009\/459\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=437"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.samplereality.com\/gmu\/fall2009\/459\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=437"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.samplereality.com\/gmu\/fall2009\/459\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=437"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
