CLOSE SHOT. <\/em> FATHER and SON are huddled close together, as the father attempts to make the lamp.<\/p>\n CUT btwn SUBJECTS<\/em> FACES<\/em>.\u00a0 The SON watches the process intently.\u00a0 The FATHER pauses before striking the flint by the dish and looks at the SON.<\/p>\n FATHER<\/span><\/p>\n (softly)<\/p>\n This may flare up.<\/p>\n \n CLOSE UP OF FACE<\/em>.\u00a0\u00a0 SON nods earnestly.\u00a0 Camera switches to the FATHER\u2019s face with the dish in the foreground.\u00a0 The sparks ignite the gas with a small fireball, the FATHER pulls back slightly before grabbing the bottle, lighting the wick and extinguishing the dish.<\/p>\n MEDIUM SHOT OF PAIR<\/em>.\u00a0 The FATHER holds out the smoking bottle at arm\u2019s length.<\/p>\n FATHER<\/span><\/p>\n Here, take it.<\/p>\n \n Son<\/span><\/p>\n (Hesitating, fearful)<\/p>\n What are we going to do?<\/p>\n CLOSE UP OF SON<\/em>. \u00a0SON takes the bottle, he is trembling slightly.<\/p>\n CLOSE UP OF PAIR<\/em>.\u00a0 FATHER leans in, steadying the SON\u2019s hand.<\/p>\n FATHER<\/span><\/p>\n Hold your hand in front of the flame, don\u2019t let it go out.<\/p>\n \n The FATHER stands up, taking the pistol from his belt.\u00a0 The SON is still shaking.<\/p>\n <\/span><\/p>\n FATHER<\/span><\/p>\n (reassuring)<\/p>\n This door looks like the other door.\u00a0 But it\u2019s not.<\/p>\n CLOSE UP OF FATHER<\/em>. The FATHER places his free hand on the SON\u2019s shoulder, looking the SON directly in the eyes.<\/p>\n FATHER<\/span><\/p>\n I know you\u2019re scared.\u00a0 That\u2019s okay.<\/p>\n CLOSE UP OF SON. <\/em>The SON is shaking less, his eyes are wet, and his breathing is slightly fast. But he appears resigned, and a little reassured.<\/p>\n CLOSE UP OF FATHER. <\/em>The FATHER\u2019s hand is still on the SON\u2019s shoulder.<\/p>\n FATHER<\/span><\/p>\n (determined)<\/p>\n I think there may be things in there and we have to take a look.\u00a0 There\u2019s no place else to go. [Leans in further.]\u00a0 This is it.\u00a0 I want you to help me.\u00a0 If you don\u2019t want to hold the lamp you\u2019ll have to take the pistol.<\/p>\n \n SON<\/span><\/p>\n I\u2019ll hold the lamp.<\/p>\n \n FATHER<\/span><\/p>\n (encouraging)<\/p>\n Okay.\u00a0 This is what the good guys do. They keep trying. They don\u2019t give up.<\/p>\n \n SON<\/span><\/p>\n (reassured, his eyes are mostly dry and he has stopped shaking)<\/p>\n Okay.<\/p>\n \n EXT:\u00a0 YARD.<\/p>\n CAMERA FOLLOWS THE PAIR, CAMERA MOVING BACKWARDS TOWARD THE TRAP DOOR, STOPS WITH THE DOOR IN FOREGROUND AND PAIR BEHIND IT.\u00a0 CAMERA SETTLES NEAR GROUND LEVEL, ANGLED SLIGHTLY UP AT FATHER AND SON. <\/em> The FATHER places the pistol back in his belt, and grabs the spade as the SON huddles behind him.<\/p>\n UPWARD FACING SHOT FROM \u201cPERSPECTIVE\u201d OF TRAP DOOR. <\/em>The FATHER is exhausted.\u00a0 Framed against the gray sky he pulls up the blade of the shovel and drives it down on the hasp.\u00a0 The impact shakes the camera.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" I wrote this out in word and so the formatting is slightly FUBAR (SFUBAR) here.
