It was hard for me to believe when Professor Yocom said that \u00e2\u20ac\u0153sometimes a person needs a story more than food to stay alive.\u00e2\u20ac\u009d\u00c2\u00a0 Needing to have stories more than the food that sustains life in the first place?\u00c2\u00a0 I tried to think abstract about this, which is hard for me.\u00c2\u00a0 A story is a tidbit of life, a snapshot.\u00c2\u00a0 They are usually about someone, or something, living \u00e2\u20ac\u201c or something personified as being living. \u00c2\u00a0A story worth telling triggers emotions, related experiences, and most importantly: dreams.\u00c2\u00a0 Little girls hear the story Cinderella and think the world is a perfect place where the young working orphan ends up with a prince.\u00c2\u00a0 Guys will hear stories of warriors and soldiers and keep the dream alive that one day they may be just as strong in body and soul.\u00c2\u00a0 The more I think about it, it seems that living vicariously though characters in heroic, tragic stories will give a person hope and strength.\u00c2\u00a0 On the other hand, I would take food over Professor Yocom\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s hook story.\u00c2\u00a0 The goal of that story, and many others in my opinion, is to entertain and elicit a reaction. \u00c2\u00a0Whether it\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s \u00e2\u20ac\u0153aw how sweet\u00e2\u20ac\u009d or \u00e2\u20ac\u0153that was freaky as hell\u00e2\u20ac\u009d they always make you think.\u00c2\u00a0 Why did this person do that, why this and that.\u00c2\u00a0 It questions them, but it also questions ourselves, what we would do in that situation.\u00c2\u00a0 A relatable character is important in my opinion very important in a story.\u00c2\u00a0 Then again, there are stories about people who do bad things who get what they deserve.\u00c2\u00a0 I also had qualms about when Professor Yocom said that folklore doesn\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t have morals.\u00c2\u00a0 They don\u00e2\u20ac\u2122t have<\/em> to have morals, but certainly, there is something to be taken away from it.\u00c2\u00a0 This is a different topic though; perhaps I shall talk about it next time!\n<\/p>\n
