I chose to begin this sequence at the lexia entitled “White Afternoon”. Here, the narrator talks about the scene of the ‘accident’, which is a key event in “afternoon”. In fact, it seems that the whole storyline of “afternoon” revolves around this accident, which may be why the author chose to entitle this lexia with “afternoon” as part of it. All of the words here link to the lexia entitled “4 what I see”, except for the words “Him” and “boy”, which link to the lexia entitled “speak memory”.
"Speak Memory" is a dialogue between two people which does not seem to make much sense, although it does appear that these people could be talking about the nature of hypertexts. The title of this lexia could possibly fit the text here, because both of these characters are speaking to eachother. All of the links on this page lead to the lexia entitled “Winter”.
“4 What I See” is another lexia which explains what the author sees at the scene at (presumably) the same accident as in “White Afternoon”. Here, the narrator (which is probably the same one from “White Afternoon”) describes in detail the skidmarks that have resulted from the accident, and how he/she finds things that seem odd about the aftermath of the accident. The title of this lexia seems to fit with the content of this story, as the author is describing what he/she sees around them. All of the links here link to the lexia entitled “5”.
"5" is another description of the accident scene. The title seems to suggest that it comes in sequence to “4 What I See”, and it certainly seems that way once you read the context of the lexia. This is probably the same narrator as from “White Afternoon” and “4 What I See”. Here, there are many links within this lexia. Everything links to the lexia entitled “staghorn and starthistle”, except for the word “Cigarette”, which links up to “yes”, “Footprints”, which links up to “2/”, “Sequin”, which links up to “o”, and “Woman’s”, which links up to “tit”.
I analyzed the four linked pages “Touching Myself,” “Monsters,” “Self Destruction,” and “The Good Soldier” which are linked together sequentially. I came to these pages by initially clicking the yes button several times. Then I decided to study tinker with clicking words in the pages versus clicking the yes button. “Touching myself” is in the voice of Lolly who appears to be Wert’s wife. She discusses making love to Wert and Peter. She refers to making love to Peter is like masturbating. I think the page was named “Touch myself” because when masturbating, someone is touching his or her own body in a sexual way. The page has two links. One goes to “madras “ where a women talks about being a prostitute/ whore and being offered a job for it in Hong Kong.
I focused on the link to “monsters.” You can get to this page by clicking “Peter” in the previous page. Joyce refers to how words have texture in his piece. “Peter” must have texture and the link took on it takes one to a page that focuses on him Peter is afraid of Dataquest and Wert. With the way Lolly describes Peter, he seems to be more to be a person who is sensitive and who is more in touch with his feminine side than most men. This is especially show when Lolly describes Peter by saying “He is like a woman.” In the page, Lolly discusses how Peter feels money creates monsters. Lolly makes a reference to how Frankenstein is a monster. There are two link of off this of page. One link takes you to “scars,” which is conversation between Wert and Peter about a plastic surgeon.
I focused on the link to “self destruction” which can be gone to by clicking “fears” in the previous page. In previous page Lolly ask if you have seen the Daughter of Frankenstein This page focuses on the movie Daughter of Frankenstein. It talks about how Frankenstein was hunted down by villagers and was killed. The killing of Frankenstein is can be considered his destruction. Thus the name the name of the page is “self destruction.” There are two links off od this page. One goes to “Naked” where a patient is having a therapy session with Lolly.
I focused on “The Good Soldier” by clicking “capitalism” in the previous page. The first part of the page has Lolly talks about how Peter needs to be saved from his sensitivity. Both this page and the “monsters” page talk about a project called Dataquest. It is seems to be a huge project that Peter is a part of. The project almost implies that it deals with information technology because it has the word “data” in it’s name. In addition, the large scale of the project when the pager uses “power” in two of the sentence describing it Unlike the other three pages which had two links off of them, this page has only one which goes to “dream pools.” This is because Joyce wants the reader to only go to specific place after the soldier page.
There are some common characteristics in the four pages I analyzed. One, Lolly who is Wert’s wife is the one talking. I am not sure to whom she is talking. It is either to herself, the reader, or to another character in the Afternoon. She refers to Peter throughout the pages during which you learn a lot about Pete. Peter is often the narrator in the Afternoon. However, in this case of these four pages, he is not. You also learn about Lolly in these pages. You learn that she is playing both Wert and Peters. She seems to care for Peter more so than Wert because she is constantly talking about how he is sensitive and how he what things can help or save him.
