Inquiry #1

I found that the amount of sensory detail woven through the accounts of the Gladney’s shopping spree at the Mid-Village Mall was so large that it was hard to glean every bit of information to put into my paper on how the mall is a sort of mystical source of comfort, practically breathing a life of its own, supernaturally. There were so many different sites and sounds to take into account….

  1. YO…I feel you dawg.  I used the same exizzleample in my paper, and unfortunately, I found myself drawn back to the supermarket continually.  I ended up making a kind of weak argument taht the mall represented more of a consumer mindset (the right words escape me at the moment) than the supermarket.  One selling needless gimmicks and impratical fashion, the other selling food, however creepily packaged.  I found in the mall a larger example of the power and manipulation of marketing than in the supermarket.  So what I’m saying is, there are many different sites of power, but I tried to find the most powerful and most exemplary out of the bunch to argue my point.  Besides, that scene was just too good and too vivid to pass up.  Feel me?  PEACE!
